Wednesday 17th July 2013

Again many apologies but I'm in Birmingham visiting a school:

Please watch the first couple of episodes of the Dragon's Den. This is a programme that gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to gain investment for their new businesses or invention (the guy who made Reggae Reggae sauce gained his fame from Dragon's Den).

Whilst you are watching it think about the different purposes of the businesses and what makes a successful bid.

Monday 15th July

Double Lesson
For those who were not in the lesson on Friday; many apologies I am not here today
Please begin by completing all tasks including the note taking of chapter 1. All of this will count as evidence towards Business Purposes.
Once you have reaches this point complete an in depth case study of Morrisons. See if you can find out about the current construction project in Carterton; planning applications (WODC Planning in Google search), what about the company? aims and objectives? ethical trading? the way they treat their staff and stakeholders (CSR)?
Write a 10 question questionnaire that you use to survey Carterton residents about the store and their hopes and concerns about traffic/ noise/ pollution? Does Carterton have too many supermarkets? How will the store affect us?
Write a letter to the regional manager of Morrisons (search for their name) and ask if you would be able to shadow their first year in Carterton by a series of surveys to find out how successful the store is when it opens and in its first year.
no headphones, no food, drinks as it is hot but no energy drinks.

Thursday 11th July 2013

The tasks you need to do were explained on Tuesday. Ensure that you have completed the sheet on corporate social responsibility and the case study on the public funded and charitable business. Examples are on the board: The BBC and Oxfam are two good case studies as are the NHS and the Blue Cross.
Its important in your case study to state:
  1. what the business does
  2. what are the products they sell
  3. what are their aims and objectives
Following this look at chapter 1 in the books and complete the tasks. You will need notes of the chapter. if you complete this try the assessment activity at the end.

No headphones needed for these activities; no drinking or eating allowed in this lesson. Please put your laptops back at the end.
